Tile flooring makes for a beautiful home

Tile flooring works in any room, from the living room to the bedroom, but it's essential to keep in mind that not all ceramics are the same; the right or wrong tile can significantly impact your remodeling project. Tile flooring is also durable, easy to clean, has excellent heat transference that can make you feel cool or warm, and stand up to any weather condition. It's also long-lasting and, when taken care of properly, can last well over 50 years.

This heavy, dense tile comprises non porous clay, sand, and glass, ideal for heavily trafficked, busy rooms. Available in an almost unlimited number of colors and designs, porcelain tile can be made to look like anything, from wood and stone to fabric and leather, and is, in fact, often the preferred choice for wood look or stone look tiles. This tile is also appropriate for installation on walls and shower/tub surrounds.

Other ceramic tiles suitable for flooring

The 4 X 4 squares are highly designed and, when glazed, have a hard outer coating and are waterproof. This is best for indoor moderately heavily foot trafficked floors, as well as backsplashes, counters, tub, and shower surrounds and walls. Mosaics are tiny, durable, mold and mildew resistant, and often glass-coated pieces now trending for bathroom floors. Terracotta tiles are highly durable, can be used indoors or out, and add the perfect touch to a rustic decor. Subway tiles now come in all colors, shapes, and sizes and should be used on indoor floors with low traffic.

Popular non-ceramic tiles include glass, metal, concrete, or natural stone, including marble, granite, or travertine. Tiles can be mixed and matched, so if budget's an issue, use a plainer tile with the addition of some highly designed ones as accents or listello border tiles. Listellos are decorative bands that add design interest to any remodeling.
